Recreating a vintage Chrstmas card

Image
The original card source I wanted to make some prints by recreating a vintage Christmas card. The choice went to this card (above), as I enjoyed the minimal colour palette and the simplicity of it. Here are the images from the lino print process. As always, the inking and printing are the most fun parts of the process. I use water soluble printing paint, to ensure that I can clean the lino plate. A bit of 3D won't hurt

Santa Claus is coming to town

Image
Monotype print It is officially December. That means that the shops can now play Christmas songs in between their aisles, our neighbours can decorate their houses and gardens with brithly coloured lights, christmas trees and air pumped figures of Santa and reindeers. I have also felt the Christmas cheer, despite the fact that though my family is largely consisted of Christians and Catholics, I don't follow any religion, thus I experience Christmas only through my family and friends. This year, I have decided to create some Christmas-ish cards and prints, starting with a Santa Claus lino print.  A lino print is a form of printing created by cutting into a plate called lino. Some of the plates can be very flexible and easy to cut, while others need to be slightly warmed up to properly complete the task.                                                  The lino plate is then inked with paint, I use Water Soluble Printing Paint from Daler-Rowney. Afternoon for design

Image
For a few weeks now, I have been debating whether to experiment with product design. I wanted to create a pattern that could be used on multiple products. This resulted in a light bird whistle pattern, inspired by the Polish folk art. I'm not sure how many of you know this, but I come from Poland and I feel closely attatched to the folk art  and culture of my native country. From there I dedided to try the design on various merchandise offered. Let me know what you think. Pillow case T-Shirt design

The Dance of Typography

Recently, I have been involved in a typography competition for the TypoDay 2019 . TypoDay is organised by the IDC School of Design, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT) Bombay, Mumbai, India. It is a weekly celebration of typography and it's beauty. The theme for the 2019 events is Experimental Typography. A part of this typography celebration, along with workshops and conferences, is a Poster Design Competition. Specifications for the poster: Size of the final poster:420mm x 600mm only in portrait format Resolution: 300 dpi File type: JPEG or PDF Color Mode: CMYK The Poster Design theme - The Dance of Typography. I have chosen to use my sketches of young Russian ballerinas. Using their bodies and ballet figures I extracted letters from within their movements. I think, that my poster may not be up to regulations, I wasn't sure if using an image along the type will be acceptable, however, I didn't receive an

Mr. Telescope continuation

Image
Mr. Telescope is the title of a children's book that I have started a year ago, as a summer project. You can read a bit about the start of it right here. Unfortunately due to my university work and a higher stress pressure that I felt during the final year of my course, I wasn't willing to go back to this project. Well, I went back to this idea and I am in the process of completing the initial spreads. The next phase will be to have these reviewed and accepted. Mr. Telescope is a story about a man with one telescopic eye. He lives in Warsaw, Poland. The story follows his journey through the city, while he searches for his cat, Filka. Here are some sneak peaks into the illustrations.

Exhibition at the LEAF

Image
We had an amazing opportunity just these past few days to exhibit our work at the annual Degree Show Exhibition.  Following the success of last year Seniors, our year was able to, through pop-up sales, Christmas cards and cookie sales, raise money and secure a place for the show at one of the local restaurants in Manchester, the LEAF on Portland Street. The preparations to the exhibition were wild and chaotic, but thankfully they went over rather quickly, allowing us for some peace before the preview night. I had to print the work, buy frames, put the work in frames, get mirror plates, fix them to the frame, transport everything (glad that the uni was able to hire a van for transport), unload everything and fix it to the show board. Never mind that I nearly fell off the ladder twice, haha. The preview night was a relaxing atmosphere, unfortunately I wasn't able to stay for long due to some other work that I was meant to do. My mom was available a
