Poetic Comeback

Image
After many months of the pandemic work, I was able to catch a bit of a rest and sink myself into the task of writing poems.  I appreciate each and every feedback that I receive in regards to my poetry. My style and repetitive themes are not to everyone's liking , but I enjoy the ability and a chance of noting down my thoughts in this way. Using the available moment I have decided to share my poems with a wider public, therefore I have submitted three of my poems to the newest isse of ArtAscent magazine. ArtAscent website ArtAscent is an opportunity for indie writers and artists to show their works to a vast number of readers. A submission to this popular magazine is considered as a milestone for the upcoming artists and a way of reaching higher level of feedback for those who are established in the field.  Every two moths you have a chance at being published in the magazine via a themed call. Each theme is different and it depends on you, how you will respond to it....

Portfolio review - Chris Madden

Image
Last month I have been able to attend the creative event celebrating the Art School of Stockport College. You can read more about this night right here 🔼.  At the end of the evening, we had the opportunity to take part in portfolio reviews meetings.  I had the chance to talk about my work with Chris Madden 🔼 , a Salford-based illustrator. Our talk started with a few questions that I wanted to ask him in regards to being a full-time illustrator but at the same time working from home while taking care of a family. Majority of freelancers work from home studios, where a family is a constant presence. Here are a few points from the first part of the review: - having an agent allows for more practical work time i.e. less admin work, less promo work and no need to find clients on their own; - make sure that you are showing yourself to others, email magazine directors, publishers and art galleries; - create a consistent portfolio, get multiple pdf. portfolios, ea...

Alumi Night

Image
Last Tuesday I had the opportunity of taking part in the exciting event, the 3rd Alumni Night of Stockport Art School. It included talks, advice, drinks and celebration for Stockport Art school students and alumni. The event was attended by graduates from the BA (Honours) and HND design programmes from years gone by with current creative students and invited for the occassion associates.   Stockport College has produced a number of art & design graduates. The ALUMNIGHT evening is a night of celebration and pride.  The night programme of Pecha Kucha presentations and informal talks covers the variety of work and practices from a range of alumni, who come from different design backgrounds. This year there were four presentations from: - Alicia & Meg , about their photography buisness; - Stephen C. Nuthill , who talked about his work as a Senior Producer; - Chris Madden , one of the most known illustration alumni; - Damyon Garrity , who presented a ph...

Update on the work

Image
This week I am back to working in the uni studio. Great help, since I do not have the software I need at home. I have focused on bringing together my pieces of collage and building up the spreads. Here are some sneak up images: I have added a different audience piece to a theater collage than I have initially planned on but it looked a little bit too basic. I've also asked around for some feedback on my work and there are some little changes and tweaks that I will need to do next week. Mostly it is to do with shadow and re-positioning few parts of the images. There are only two more weeks until the final deadline and so much work to do.  We have held portfolio reviews today, where I've received a little bit of advice to rearrange and take out some of the works from my portfolio as they didn't show my abilities and the quality of my works. Eh. Sometimes it feels like too much stress, but in the end the effort is definitely worth it.

Current Project

Image
I am currently working on a children's book developed from an old Polish folk legend about a Golden Duck.  The short story follows a young poor shoemaker into finding a Golden Duck, who can make anyone rich, under certain condition, that they follow their rules.  In the end the legend talks about money not being the only important thing in the world, and that it won't bring anyone happiness unless you have someone to share it with.  The process of the book is still going, as although I have started in January, I went through a phase where I didn't enjoy my working method and decided to change it into a more mixed media of collage, watercolours and digital manipulation. I faced a brick wall when during a tutorial with my tutors I have been told that I need to change my font, because it just didn't fit the work.  So during the last week I had to create my own font and try to see how this one works with my work. The work is going quite s...

Discussion Forum - How to sell your work? Ashley and Nayim Few weeks before the half-term, we held a discussion forum lead by two of our peers, Ashley and Nayim.   The topic of the forum was 'How to sell your work?'.  It is a topic that many beginning illustrators are afraid to approach, mainly because they don't know where to start off.  -A and N started with the Advantages and Disadvantages of working together in a collective/studio. (image - https://hereandnowblog.wordpress.com/2012/07/06/open-for-business/  ) Advantages:  + sharing costs and equipment; + promoting each other; + sharing the workload; + help and support each other; + inspiring and motivating each other. Disadvantages: + shared cost and equipment - how do you split the costs?; + splitting the profits - can you split it equally?; + disagreements - can you solve differences and arguments?; + different personalities - can they work togeth...
