Working on Parkinson's Disease
Couple of weeks ago, we were asked to choose one of two projects: -a mural in a care home for residents suffering from dementia; -a set of tools or a tool for children to inform them about Parkinson's Disease. We could choose either and choose whether we want to work individually or in pairs. I have decided to join my friend S., who has a similar style of work and way of working, to me. We have chosen the Parkinson's Disease and the creation of a tool for children. What is Parkinson's Disease? Parkinson's disease is caused by a loss of nerve cells in part of the brain. This leads to a reduction in a chemical, called dopamine, in the brain. Dopamine plays a vital role in regulating the movement of the body. A reduction in dopamine is responsible for many of the symptoms of Parkinson's disease. Exactly what causes the loss of nerve cells is unclear. Most experts think that a combination of genetic and environmental factors is responsible. W...
